Day 78: Box Jellyfish

Box jellyfish have extremely powerful venom to stun and kill prey. Their venom contains toxins that attack the heart, nervous system and skin cells. Humans who get stung have been known to go into shock and drown or die from heart failure before reaching shore. Surviors can experience pain for weeks and scarring where the tentacles made contact. On each corner of their bell up to 15 tentacles grow from it that can reach up to 10 feet long. One tentacle has about 5,000 stinging cells. They are more advanced than other jellyfish. They have a eyes grouped into clusters of six on the four sides of their bell. They also have the ability to move rather than just drift unlike most other jellyfish.
