Day 75: Giraffe

Giraffes are the world's tallest mammal. Their 6-foot-long neck weighs about 600 pounds! They use their height to a good advantage to get to treetops; their favorite food is from the acacia tree. A giraffes tongue is about 20 inches long and covered in fleshy bumps to help them get the thorny leaves. Their height also helps them keep a lookout for danger on the African Savana. The disadvangae to their height is that they are most vulunerable when they drink since they have to spread their legs and bend down in an awkward position in order to drink. Although, giraffes get water from the food they eat, so they only need to go to a watering whole once every several days.
