Day 72: Sun Bear

  • Nov 11, 2016
  • 1 min read

Sun Bears are the smallest member of the bear family and can be found in lowland forests of Southeast Asia. They are called sun bears because of the crescent golden patch on their chest, which is said to represent the rising sun. If attacked they have loose skin that allows them to twist around and bite their attacker that is behind them. Sun bears are nocturnal and eat fruit, berries, roots, insects, small birds, lizards and rodents. They also have a long tongue that they use to get honey. Sun bears are in danger of extinction and their home is being lost rapidly to deforestation.
