Day 68: Quetzals
The resplendent quetzal is considered among the world's most beautiful bird. They can found in the mountains and tropical forests of central America. They eat fruit, insects, lizards and small creatures. Male quetzals grow twin tail feathers that grow up to three feet long. Females do not grow long tail feathers, but they are brightly colored as well. They belong to the 'Trogon' family of birds which is Greek for "gnawing" which is a distinctive trait to these birds. They use their powerful beaks t hollow out a nest in rotted trees or stumps.
