Day 58: Alligator Snapping Turtles
Alligator snapping turtles can be found in the freshwater rivers, canals and lakes of North America. They spend most of their lives in water and can hold their breath for about 40 to 50 minutes. They are ambush predators who lurk at the water's bottom waiting for prey. They will eat fish, mussles and smaller reptiles. They have a red wormlike flesh on their tongue that they use to lure prey closer.
