Day 52: North American Porcupine

Porcupines have 30,00 quills everywhere except for its stomach. They can not shoot out their quills. They will turn their back and raise their quills. If contact if made with the predator the quill will be embedded in the animal. Body heat will cause the barbs on the quill to expand which will be even more embedded in the animal. The quills are made out of the same material as our hair, keratin. The quill will also regrow back just like our hair. Porcupines are the second largest rodent in North America and they are excellent tree climbers. They have big ever-growing orange teeth to chew at vegetation.
