Day 31: Black Bear


Black bears can be found mainly in forested areas of North America from central Mexico to North West Alaska. They can weigh between 200-600 pounds and their average lifespan in the wild is about twenty years. They have a variety of color phases which are, black, chocolate brown, cinnamon brown, grayish blue and white. You can not out run them; they can run up to 30mph. They have poor eyesight, but have strong claws and a keen sense of smell. Black bears are very opportunistic eaters. Most of their diet consists of grasses, roots, berries, and insects. But They will also eat fish and mammals and easily develop a taste for human foods and garbage.
