Day 20: Glaucus Atlanticus

Glaucus atlanticus, also known as the blue ocean slug, is a gastropad that lives in the ocean. They feed typically on dangerous hydrozoans such as the Portugese-man-o-war. They have the ability to digest the nematocysts, stinging cells, of their prey and store them in special sacs called cnidosacs that will then transport them to the tips of thier limb-like outgrowths called cerata. It floats on the sea due to the gas in its stomach. They are oviparous, meaning that they are egg layers, and their eggs are often deposited on the dead carcasses of its prey.
