Day 17: Rosy Boa

Rosy Boas and many other snakes in the Boidae family are viviparous. Viviparous means that they give birth to live young that develop within the mother's body rather than hatching from eggs. Rosy boas are nonvenomous, instead they kill prey by constriction. They are usually non-agressive and slow moving. They are generally crepuscular meaning that they are awake at dawn or dusk. Rosy boas are found in southwestern U.S. in California and Arizona, and northwestern Mexico in Baja California and Sonora. They have lengthwise strips of pink, reddish brown, orange, or dull brown.
