Opossums have the most teeth out of any land mammal in North America. They have 50 teeth; they are also the only marsupial, an animal with a pouch, in North America. These guys don't live too long in the wild, only 1-2 years. However, they have a short gestation period of about 13 days and can carry up to 25 young, 7-8 is the average amount. Opossums are pretty much resistant to rabies do to their low body temperature. When they get scared they "play possum" and go into near coma-like state up to 4 hours and release a putrid smell from their anus to deter predators or to signal that they mean to harm to another animals young.
